Note: This is an Orion UK Ltd telescope, not to be confused with Orion, USA which are Chinese gear. These two names are similar but their products are totally different. Orion UK Ltd are a specialist bespoke supplier and hand craft some of the best telescopes that are available globally, their products feature simply exceptional quality optics, and are would renowned for superior optics – my own 1/10PV CF unit was purchased as I wanted something that optically directly compared to my 1970 Questar but with higher power in a larger aperture & a more attractive price.

The OMC200 came into being as a challenge in achieving a wide field, photo visual Maksutov Cassegrain with incredible stability and versatility. The project was a success and we judge that by considering the large number of these compact instruments we have in use in every continent of the World.
Why is it so successful? The design is not a standard all spherical one with a main mirror the same size as the corrector. That is the traditional Maksutov design but, it lacks off axis performance and suffers from coma.
